The Sub 70 639 MB Plus was designed by the club makers at Sub 70 in response to a consistent question they got during their many years of building clubs and fitting golfers: am I good enough to play a blade? For anyone who has asked themselves that question and been afraid to invest in a club they may not be skilled enough to hit consistently, the MB Plus is your answer.
Like its brother the 639 MB, the MB Plus is a classic looking iron that is precision forged and CNC milled from a single billet of DT-4 super soft steel, which provides the same buttery feel and responsiveness that players look for in a blade. From there, the top line was nominally widened, the offset deepened, and the heel to toe length of the blade made slightly longer. These three changes were specifically tested until the club had the largest possible sweet spot while also allowing workability and providing feel and feedback to the player. The iron is finished in a handsome and utilitarian brushed satin to reduce glare, and the muscle back provides ideal launch parameters and maximum energy transfer for distance. Perhaps most importantly, the larger blade size, deeper offset, and slightly wider topline all have the combined effect of instilling confidence at address, allowing a player that once asked the question, to now have an answer.

- Take dead aim!
Previously demo’d The 639CB and was very impressed. Have now played the 639MB (8 iron) for past two weekends w/ Project X 6.0. Incredibly accurate, great feel and beautiful design. Was a bit nervous initially and didn’t hit great on first range session. Since then, however, really been able to stick much closer to pin from 155 - 165 out. I won’t say that I attack the pins (I’m not that good), but these appear to help me align and swing with confidence. In the two weeks using this 8 iron on my approach shots, have had at least 3 birdies and multiple pars just missing the putts (again, I’m not really that good at a 15HC but the game is serviceable) - thinned a few shots too and that’s not overly pleasing to the hands, but more good than bad shots. Distance is good, but not quite as noticeable of a difference from the Ping I210 8 iron, where the 639CB is definitely a 1/2 to full club longer.
Judge for yourself - if your a solid ball striker, don’t be afraid of either the CB or MB, I think you will like them

Looks: Too notch - you know this because they’re pictured above. The swirling on the bottom half is overstated in the pictures i think. But they look badass.
Feel / Playability:
Having hit plenty of clubs, of all types and brands. IMO these are true blades despite the plus category. Good swings and ball striking are rewarded with butter like feel, consistent distance and elevated spin. Miss hits are punished - you will feel them. You will sacrifice distance and the club feel & vibration tells you how bad.
I love this, which is why I bought blades. Feedback.
Quality / Durability
I have played approx (6) 18 hole rounds and have not found and issues with wear or build quality. It is early but there is no reason to think these won’t last.
