The Sub 70 699 is for the golfer that requires the newest technology in game improvement without sacrificing looks and shot making ability. The manufacturing process was fine tuned to provide the hottest face and the largest sweet spot attainable without sacrificing looks and playability. The precision milled face is a 1.7mm wide sliver of 455 Carpenter Steel, allowing for maximum compression and face flex for added ball speed, even on mishits. The hollow bodied head is injected with TPE, a resin like substance that stabilizes the face and creates improved feel and sound at impact.

The 699 is the successful culmination of Sub 70's desire to offer an iron that uses the latest in game improvement technology but retains the sleekness of a traditional player's club, inspiring confidence at address and power at delivery.

Best Irons I have played with!

I would like to start off by saying that Sub 70's Customer Service and Staff are beyond anything I have worked with before. They are knowledgeable, friendly and will make sure you are happy with what you are purchasing. They are not here to just make money, they want the customer to be happy with what they have and play the best golf that they can.

I bought a set of 699's this past September and have played a few Fall rounds with them. This was the first set I have been fitted for and Jason worked with me to get the exact specs that I needed with soft stepping the shafts. I demoed a lot of top of the line clubs similar to the 699's and I will say I only found 1 major factor....price. I could not personally tell much of a difference between the top few iron brands in Distance Player irons and Sub 70's irons.

I think have told all of the people at my home course about this brand and when it comes time for them to look for new clubs, please give their demo program a chance. You will not be disappointed.

I wanted to wait a few rounds before reviewing these so I could be as fair as possible. I have 4 rounds now and about double that on the range. I can honestly say I've never hit irons better than I have hit the 699's.

I struggled for most of the year with my 2016 M2's. Distance was good but poor consistency and no accuracy at all. Most shots had a leak to the right no matter what I did. One of the reasons I went with the 699's was the ability to have the lie adjusted. I went 3 up and the leak is gone. I've doubled my GIR per round and confidence is through the roof.

They look great, feel great, and perform...all for a very reasonable price. I've had one very small issue. The paint fill in the number on 2 irons (PW & 8) has come out. I contacted Sub 70 and Jason offered to replace the heads free of charge. I told him I might take him up on it but not until there is deep snow on the ground because I don't want to be without my irons for even one round, they are that good.

I love to tinker with different clubs during the year but I'm confident that the 699's will be in the bag for 2020. Next purchase will probably the 17 degree 699U Utility club. Merry Xmas to me!

How/Why did I get them?
-----------------------
I was not in the market for irons. I play the Callaway Rogue's and like them quite a lot. While looking for Hybrid(s) I stumbled upon a review/suggestion of the Sub70 939X which took me the site. While, I did not buy the hybrid, I was enamored right away by how exquisite the 639CB and 699 Irons looked. I ended up reaching out to Jason who helped out with a good shaft choice as well as suggesting that I go with the 699's instead of the 639's given my 20 handicap.

How do I like them?
-------------------
I love them. When I looked at the irons in person, I was astounded. They looked better in person than they did on the website. The pictures look good but they still do not do it justice. Also, the offset is a lot less than the Rogues which makes the club more appealing at address.

3 rounds in and these irons are as forgiving as my Rogues. They are about half a club shorter but considering that they are 1 degree weaker through the set, I am not too surprised. It does help me bridge the distance between my PW and AW though so that is a bonus. The clubs are also more workable than my Rogues. And while I do not try to work the ball as often, the few times I tried, I could really see the difference between my Rogues and the 699's.

The only complaint I have about them is a scuff I got on my 7 iron during my 1st round. Still no idea how I got it since I only played through the rough/fairway and my shiny club getting dinged right away concerns me about their longevity. But another 27 holes and the rest of the clubs have still held up fine so not sure what the issue with the 7 iron was.

Summary
-------

If you are in the market for new Irons, give Sub 70 a chance. Really good clubs, at a great price and an owner that cares about getting the best product out for you. And with the demo they offer, you can't really go wrong.

These are great irons and the service you get is excellent, something missing with a lot of companies today. This was the first time I’ve ever hit any of the resin filled irons and at first I didn’t like the sound, but after watching each shot hit with them you adapt quickly and I don’t even notice it now. I can’t say that I gained any distance with these except for the irons that were a little stronger lofted. I did find a lot more forgiveness and a nice ball flight. When I purchased these I was playing to a 7.8 handicap and it has since dropped to a 5.7. There was no adjustment period with these irons like I’ve had in the past when I’ve changed equipment, very first round I shot a 75. I did hit a rock with my 7 iron and tore the sole up pretty good. I got in touch with Jason and he offered to replace the head at his cost. I asked how much to just send another 7 iron altogether and he did it at cost, I really did not want to go a single weekend without these clubs. You can usually tell how good a company is when you have a problem and Jason definitely does a great job of taking care of you. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a new set of irons, everyone at my club keeps asking me where I got these. Hopefully it leads to some more sales for Sub70. Thanks for all the help. Unbelievable!! Couldn’t be happier with my irons. First time out and if I wasn’t a choke artist and three jacked the last hole, they would have been as advertised!! (69! But with the three putt 70!!! :( ). I’ll get em next time, ordered the sub 70 001 blade putter today!
Awesome customer service, product quality and I’ll never pay the high price for a name brand again.

Played three rounds with the 699 irons and I must admit they are longer then my Mp 18 SC set and just as soft. I play KBS tour shafts so it was an equal comparison. I am 68 years old and haven`t hit an 8 iron over 155 yards in many years, but I did it today. Hit a 9 iron on a par three that measured 148 yards less then a foot from the pin. Traded in two sets of Mizuno iron last week and ordered a set of 639 forged because I was so impressed with the customer service and of course the 699 irons. I wish this company well. I demo’d these and the 639’s. Both unbelievable clubs at a price that seems to good to be true. I ultimately went with the 699’s. Best thing about these is that they give you the distance and forgiveness of a game improvement iron, without a huge bulky look. Jason and the team met every custom request I made down to swing weight and grip style. The clubs came fast and they were perfect. Can’t say enough good things about this company. This is a review for the 699 demo irons. Just a first rate experience with the company. After I placed the order I received a call from Jason thanking me for taking interest in Sub 70 golf. The 6 and 9 irons were newly assembled and looked fantastic. After 2 range sessions I was convinced that these are just a great product. Because of a busy work schedule i decided to return the irons before the trial period ended. I felt that someone else should have the opportunity to demo these irons. Sub 70 golf will email a return label for shipping the clubs back. I returned the irons within a few days so I was not aware that returned label would be sent. If you demo clubs be patient for the return label. No problem that's on me. I work in the service industry and Sub 70 golf provides exception service, value and a quality product. The 699s are one of the best performing irons I have ever hit and My last Irons where Pxg gen 1 and Pxg Gen2 0311s almost 1/2 club longer then my pxgs and although they are not forged They are still super workable and shape shots like a charm ...I’m a 7.1 handicap right now and these clubs are more forgiving and the misshits off the toes and heels go just as far and strait ....just love these clubs and they way they are delivered and packaged up to the hand written note from the staff to the personal phone call from the owner to check I’m on my purchase...can’t wait to see what’s coming in the future ...I wish them the best ....OHHH AND THE PRICE OF THE CLUBS HOLY MOLY ....already had 2 buddy’s purchase a set of the 699s since I got mine Review by Debo (Posted on 7/30/2019)

Was playing TaylorMade M2 irons...699 irons that Jason recommended for me are just as easy to hit...just as long with more loft and they flat out perform. A fantastic club that I do not need to muscle around the course, just put a smooth swing on it and you will see the distance and control that you'd expect from an iron 2x the cost. I've been playing the 699's for a couple months now in 4-PW with the KBS Tour shafts. These things are long, almost too long. I had to swap up my wedges to close the distance gap with the PW. Once I got my distances dialed in, my scores started dropping. The last couple weekends I've shot some of my lowest scores. The 4 iron works very well as a driving iron off the tee for about 215-220 yards. They are workable, but I wish a bit more so. That would probably be my biggest complaint. They spin a bit less than I'd like, but that is to be expected from a distance iron.
Overall, this has to be one of the biggest bang for your buck deals in golf. You can't really go wrong with these based on the performance to price point ratio. Demo them! You won't be disappointed.

I'm blown away! These clubs are amazing. I shot 73 (34-39 I got pretty tired in 100+ def heat on the back and if I would have pitted a little better it would have been crazy) the first time out. I'm a 5 handicap so 73 isn't unfamiliar but on the first round! The biggest difference I saw was the confidence on par 3's. I hit 3-4 greens on par 3's which is where my game struggles. The only par three I missed was a 4 iron that was just a poor swing. Thank you for the hat, tees, and bag that came in my box. and of course the tank you letter was the cherry on top. Your company really is first class. The one thing I kept hearing on reviews was these are great irons for the money. This is not a correct statement. The truth is these are just great clubs!

Thank you again

Got the 699 irons about a 3 weeks ago. First the customer service with the company is out of this world. I had some questions on shafts and Jason instead of responding to my emails called me to talk about what I was looking for and how I wanted the shafts. After a couple phone calls settled on the Project X graphite shafts and man was he on the money. The 699 irons produce a piercing shot for me since I am a high ball hitter, shot came down considerably. I have shot two rounds in the low to mid 70s and a few in the low 80s. Biggest take away is they are forgiving while not looking so bulky like the other game improvement irons out there. I am about a 1/2 club longer then my other set I know that is not that much but with the shot pattern and spin I'm getting on the greens is perfect. I would recommend these clubs to any mid to low handicapper out there and put the irons up against any other club maker out there and see if Sub70s don't preform better. Outstanding quality and service. By the looks I was afraid the 699 may be too much club for my 14 hdcp index. Perfect size head. Toe side misses still travel 10 yards further than my mizunos JPY 900 hot metal. 150 yards with the 699. Cuts through the turf where other irons would bounce and stop. From start to finish this was by far the best experience I had buying golf clubs. The day after I placed my order I received a call from Jason (owner of Sub 70) confirming my specs and provided some further insight on the product. Had the clubs in my hand (custom built) two days later. This included a hand written letter thanking me for my purchase. This is the type of customer service that will keep me coming back. Now on to the club performance.

I hover between a 3 to 6 handicap and have been there for a while. I am very interested in trying new clubs and have done fittings for pretty much every company you can think of. To be honest I was not even in the market for clubs but I kept coming back to the Sub 70 website because I loved the look and specs of the 699’s. I went with the KBS Tour 90 shaft (+1” and 2 degrees upright) to get a lighter shaft than what I had.

Bottom line is the clubs are amazing. They had a higher launch than my current set but carried about a club longer. I was able to work them with complete ease but noticed the average ball flight for me had much less of a draw than what I normally play. Eventually I was able to get them on a lunch monitor and again compared them to a few different brands (including a $2400 set). They perform as well or better than them all. If you are on the fence just use the demo program and give them a try. Or in my case just buy them and go enjoy what they have to offer at a much more affordable price than well know brand names. They have a money back guarantee as well although I would bet you would not use it. Time to see what my next Sub 70 purchase will be!

These are, without question, the absolute best value in the golf world right now. They are absolutely phenomenal irons. I’m a single digit handicap, and I had the pleasure to demo the 6 and 9 irons. I’ve been playing, until recently, bladed cavity irons that will go unnamed, but, suffice to say they’re a $2k set of Japanese forgings.

Anyway, had a chance to get these out, and to say I’m shocked would be an understatement. These things feel as awesome as they look, and they perform brilliantly. If you’d told me that a sub-$700 set of clubs would perform the way these do, I would have laughed and scoffed at the idea, frankly.

However, these DO perform. They feel better than the other foam filled blades irons out there. Those being the i500 and the P790’s, and honestly, it isn’t even close. With the Tour V shaft in these, they performed far superior to what I and all my playing partners expected. These are fantastic irons.

So good, in fact, that I’ve committed to switching my bag out to these irons. You won’t be disappointed, if you give these a fair shake. That, I can assure you. Same performance and arguably better, for roughly half the cost?! Yes, please!!!

The Quality of this model doesn’t match the cost. Something that preforms this well and feels this great I would expect to cost double what it does. I came into the HQ to get fit by Jason. His knowledge of Shafts and the golf swing had me in the right equipment in no time. I placed my order and receiving it two business days later! I quickly setup time to go to the Mistwood golf dome (its January) to try them out. They felt great, exploded off the clubface and I was able to hit a REPEATABLE Draw with ease. I played closest to the pin and knocked several inside 10 feet with the best score being just 4 feet from the cup! The distance was 150 yards. That used to be my 7 Iron with my old set. Now it’s a soft, 75% 8 iron. My only issue with my clubs is that its winter and I cant go outside to play an actual round right now. Review by Ed D. (Posted on 1/29/2019)
